ARISE PH represents the Private Sector during the SEAMEO Council Presidency Flagship Program led by DepEd

26 March 2025 – ARISE Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies – Philippine Network (ARISE PH), through Vice Admiral Alexander Pama (ret.), as an ARISE Global Board Member, emphasized the significance of private sector engagement in Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience in Education during the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council Presidency Flagship Program titled “Ready SEA: Showcasing the Integration of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change in the Teaching and Learning Process (Ready SEA)” on March 26, 2025.

The event was spearheaded by the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd), the current chair of the SEAMEO Council. ‘Ready SEA’ is part of the Philippines’ commitment to the SEAMEO Strategic Plan 2021-2030, which focuses on seven priority areas in education. The program was attended in person by key local officials and personnel from DepEd, as well as international delegates from various Southeast Asian regions.

This initiative aims to facilitate regional collaboration among SEAMEO member countries to develop and implement effective teaching methods and materials that incorporate disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change awareness. Its goal is to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of natural disasters and climate change.

ARISE Philippines, representing the private sector in disaster risk reduction efforts, participated to share the private sector’s capabilities in risk-informed development and disaster resilience. Former Undersecretary Alexander Pama, a prominent figure in disaster risk reduction efforts, highlighted the importance of private sector involvement in such initiatives. He also showcased the history of how ARISE PH’s network and DRR capacities have flourished over the years.

The ‘Ready SEA’ program underscores DepEd’s commitment to fostering a culture of resilience and sustainability in Southeast Asia. By working closely with ARISE Philippines and other stakeholders, DepEd aims to create a generation of students equipped to face the challenges of climate change and natural disasters, contributing to a safer and more resilient region.
