March 30, 2026 – ARISE Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Health’s Health Emergency Management Bureau (DOH HEMB), successfully conducted two batches of Hands-Only CPR Orientation Training in the province of Rizal, equipping a total of 206 participants (65 from Angono and 141 from Taytay) with essential life-saving skills to combat sudden cardiac arrest.

Notably, the events were opened to mall walk-ins based on the directives of ARISE Philippines Chairperson Mr. Hans T. Sy, driven by his passion to capacitate not only business people but also the communities they serve. Led by expert CPR instructors from DOH Hospital Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center and the Bureau of Fire Protection National Headquarters, the sessions used DOH HEMB’s standardized course and protocols. The short lecture was designed for laypersons and focuses on core competencies of high-quality, chest-compression-only CPR, without covering the full scope of Basic Life Support (BLS).
The initiative’s primary objective is to enable participants to acquire the competencies necessary to perform effective Hands-Only CPR during emergencies involving sudden cardiac arrest. By empowering individuals to act quickly and confidently, the training significantly increases survival chances for victims, addressing the Philippines’ alarming rate of sudden cardiac arrests that claim thousands of lives annually, often in homes and crowded public spaces like malls.

This Hands-Only CPR Training Awareness Campaign, initiated by ARISE Philippines in collaboration with DOH HEMB, underscores our commitment to community resilience. It aligns with the latest UNDRR Strategic Framework to advance the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, particularly under the catalytic areas of Risk Management and Locally-led DRR.

“We are proud to bring this vital training to Rizal, fostering a culture of preparedness where every citizen can be a first responder,” said Co-Chairperson Engr. Liza B. Silerio. “Through strategic partnerships like this with DOH HEMB, ARISE Philippines continues to build safer, more resilient communities.”
